The top five companies accounted for 26% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that BASF filed the most 3D printing patents within the oil & gas industry in Q1 2024. The company filed 23 3D printing-related patents in the quarter, compared with 27 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Arkema with 21 3D printing patent filings, Baker Hughes (19 filings), and United Therapeutics (13 filings) in Q1 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 26% share of total patent filings
The largest share of 3D printing related patent filings in the oil & gas industry in Q1 2024 was in China with 26%, followed by the US (23%) and Japan (11%). The share represented by China was 3% higher than the 23% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
