The top five companies accounted for 22% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Robert Bosch Stiftung filed the most lng patents within the oil & gas industry in Q1 2024. The company filed 19 lng-related patents in the quarter, compared with 1 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Engie with 17 lng patent filings, General Electric (13 filings), and Linde (12 filings) in Q1 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 25% share of total patent filings
The largest share of lng related patent filings in the oil & gas industry in Q1 2024 was in China with 25%, followed by the US (23%) and Japan (10%). The share represented by China was 2% higher than the 23% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
